Woodland Riders Downhill Mountain bike Club

The Woodland Riders is a Downhill only mountain bike club based near Tavistock in the South West of Devon. The Club was formed in 2005 as a way to raise the money needed to pay the landowner the rent, which would allow us to legally ride in the area. The money raised from the membership fees also goes towards insurance and affiliation with the British Cycling Federation.

As a result you MUST BE A MEMBER to ride here, or have permission from a member of the committee.

There are currently a selection of 6 downhill tracks to choose from, with more under construction all the time. They vary in difficulty from relatively easy (but fast) to very steep technical courses with large jumps and drops.

One benefit we've had since starting the Woodland Riders is that we have been granted access to a new site and given nearly £50,000 from the Tamar Vally AONB to build a new expert only Downhill Race Course. This single track has now turned into four new tracks with two Downhill courses and two Cross Country/Downhill Courses. All of this is now under construction, however even when they are completed access to this area and the tracks will be restricted until the proper utilities are in place. So if you know where they are please resist the temptation to go there or you could jeopardize the project for everyone. The main aim of these new facility's is to be able to host national downhill races here, which is something most of use thought would never happen.

YOU MUST BE A MEMBER TO RIDE HERE, IF YOU ARE INJURED WHILE RIDING HERE AND ARE NOT A MEMBER YOU RUN THE RISK OF GETTING EVERYONE THROWN OFF THE LAND, ALL 120+ OF US. SO DONT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT.

Message from West Devon Warriors BMX club

November 12th 2008

Please read this message and act on it as it would benefit all of us.... // I'm looking for riders who'd be willing to back the cause of the West Devon Warriors to get a BMX track in Tavistock...

we've had the council meeting, they're backing the idea, we are talking to some places about land as we speak... and what we really need is a big old list of names and contact numbers/emails/addresses to show to the council of people who are ready to join the West Devon Warriors.

At this stage it'd be AMAZING if you could ask the Woodland Riders if they might be able to offer their names to the cause - even if they don't feel up to actually joining the club,it'd be good to have names to show the council anyway!

We are aiming to have the track as a National Standard track, which would also be great for some 4X racing on MTB's too. Also eventually there would be dirtjumps, ramps and bowls etc etc, but first and foremost will be the track...

if your interested then drop steve wilson an email at: westdevonwarriors@googlemail.com //

Mr Sheen shine

May 19th 2008

That was hot! Jody, Nick "North shore" Cleaver and I all dedicated last wednesday to trail polish down at the woods. I think we did a cracking job! The whole open section was swept of ant loose marbles, the rock drop wooden ramp was totally rebuilt, "The man" and "semi skimmed" both had ladders put in them to allow faster ditch crossings. Tha tracks all have new name badges (just like Mcdonalds!) and all the track entrances and crossings are now taped for visibility (for when the new and very badly planned pedestrian routes open through OUR riding area....) Let me know what you think of the work, or suggest stuff you'd like to see done by using the contact form on here. Andy

November 07th 2007

Work has at last started on the new tracks, from what I've heard the Downhill only track is looking insane and really will be for experts only!!! But there will still be the cross country loop for everyone else. Derek and I will be going to the site tomorrow and I'll try to get some pics up to show the progress.

Rich.
