Woodland Riders Downhill Mountain bike Club

The Woodland Riders is a Downhill only mountain bike club based near Tavistock in the South West of Devon. The Club was formed in 2005 as a way to raise the money needed to pay the landowner the rent, which would allow us to legally ride in the area. The money raised from the membership fees also goes towards insurance and affiliation with the British Cycling Federation.

As a result you MUST BE A MEMBER to ride here, or have permission from a member of the committee.

There are currently a selection of 6 downhill tracks to choose from, with more under construction all the time. They vary in difficulty from relatively easy (but fast) to very steep technical courses with large jumps and drops.

One benefit we've had since starting the Woodland Riders is that we have been granted access to a new site and given nearly £50,000 from the Tamar Vally AONB to build a new expert only Downhill Race Course. This single track has now turned into four new tracks with two Downhill courses and two Cross Country/Downhill Courses. All of this is now under construction, however even when they are completed access to this area and the tracks will be restricted until the proper utilities are in place. So if you know where they are please resist the temptation to go there or you could jeopardize the project for everyone. The main aim of these new facility's is to be able to host national downhill races here, which is something most of use thought would never happen.

YOU MUST BE A MEMBER TO RIDE HERE, IF YOU ARE INJURED WHILE RIDING HERE AND ARE NOT A MEMBER YOU RUN THE RISK OF GETTING EVERYONE THROWN OFF THE LAND, ALL 120+ OF US. SO DONT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT.

Dig Day helpers

May 08th 2008

The woods are looking a bit sorry for themselves after a winter of plenty of riding and plenty more rain. So on Wednesday 14th May I'll be down at the woods from 1230 with my trusty sidekick (spade carrier!) Jody from Dartmoor cycles, to dig, tape tracks and re-sign the place. Can anybody come and help us?

More members!

March 10th 2008

The club is growing faster than I can produce membership cards, therefore we are changing system. Shortly every paid up member (Millki, you owe £20!) will be sent a small helmet sticker with your renewal date on it. Stick it somewhere on the lid you'd use at Tavi woods. This can also be used as your proof of membership at Dartmoor cycles. Andy

The Tavi 45

November 28th 2007

Last weekend we had the first of what will hopefully become a regular series of races/timed runs at the woods. Due to the efforts of Millki and Mono we had a 25 rider turnout for the Krash track. Even some faces who we haven't seen for a while (who owe us membership too, Wassel, Jon Caley!!). As expected Ash Mundane lead the charge setting a 40 second run closely followed by Credi and RHUK's Si Aplin on 43 and lord Kenny on 44. Cheers to the Groms who sat at the bottom all day timing and to all the riders for the cool atmosphere. Keep checking back for more info on the next session, maybe I'll be sober enough to ride next time... AndyB

Not 2 but 4 new tracks!!!!!!!!

November 09th 2007

You read that right. The big news from the secret building site is that as well as the getting the main Downhill and XC/Freeride tracks, Rowan and the team are also constructing an all natural Downhill track and XC track which will run along side the main tracks. And even though construction only started on Monday things already look crazy. I'll try to get some pics up as soon as possible.

Work Begins

November 07th 2007

Work has at last started on the new tracks, from what I've heard the Downhill only track is looking insane and really will be for experts only!!! But there will still be the cross country loop for everyone else. Derek and I will be going to the site tomorrow and I'll try to get some pics up to show the progress.
